ESET NOD32 Antivirus, CNET Editors’ Choice 2009

Everybody needs antivirus protection of some sort on their machine these days. And the choice you have is immense. From the big names like Norton to free software like AVG. But one product that has quietly been making a name for itself is NOD32. Is this software as good as many people say? Here’s our review.

The company behind NOD32 is ESET. This Slovakian company was formed in 1992 as an Internet security company and NOD 32 remains their flagship product.

The product has a number of claims to fame. First it is a very fast piece of software to use. It does not need much in the way of memory or CPU resources so it will not slow your machine down. Secondly it is very effective. It is the only piece of software that has never missed an ‘in the wild’ virus since 1998.

Using the software is very simple. Once configured, you can just leave it to do its thing quietly in the background. You will see periodic messages to let you know that the software has performed an update to detect the new viruses.
